Description
PORCH – FRONT ELEVATION
Under the Permitted development rights for householders: technical guidance you have the right to build a porch at the FRONT of your home using materials that are either the same as or similar to those of your existing property, all without needing any prior notice or planning permission. All our designs full comply with permitted development guidelines and current building regulations.
If your porch exceeds any of the below size or location limits.
- If you live in a flat or maisonette.
- If you live in a Conservation Area, National Park, or your home is listed.
- If your property has had its permitted development rights removed (e.g., by an Article 4 Direction).
- Even if planning permission isn’t needed, Building Regulations approval is often required for the porch’s windows and any electrical installations.
- Always check with your local council or the Planning Portal for specific guidance, as rules can vary slightly or your property might have restrictions.
- Generally, the porch should be situated near the front door and must not cover more than 3 square meters of external space.
- The height of the porch roof should not exceed 3 meters, regardless of whether it has a duo pitched, mono pitched, or flat design, and it should be at least 2 meters away from any public road or footpath.
- Your new porch should also ensure that it does not interfere with your current parking situation or decrease the number of off-street parking spaces available.
